Home/Work/Meridian Money
Studio project

The money app that answers ‘can I afford it?’ honestly.

Meridian pulls checking, savings, credit cards and investments into one net-worth view, answers plain-English questions about your money with an AI assistant, and gives the deeper analysis its own web dashboard — instead of five apps that don't talk to each other.

What we built
Native app + web dashboard — spending, investing, one AI assistant
The challenge

Every bank and brokerage app assumes it's the only one you use.

Most people's money is scattered across four or five apps that were never designed to talk to each other — a checking account here, a savings account there, a credit card in a third app, a brokerage in a fourth. Net worth ends up as a number nobody actually calculates, because doing it properly means opening all four and doing the arithmetic by hand.

Meridian is a studio project: a consumer finance app that treats "what's actually going on with my money" as the core product, not an afterthought bolted onto a bill-pay screen. Every linked account rolls into one net-worth figure, spending is categorized automatically instead of by hand, and investments across every brokerage sit in a single portfolio view. Ask Meridian sits on top of all of it — a natural-language assistant that answers questions like "how much did I spend eating out last month?" or "can I afford a $4,000 trip in December?" with a real number pulled from real data, not a generic chatbot response.

We designed and built Meridian in house, end to end — the native app and a full web dashboard for the deeper analysis, both built to the same visual system, so the number on the phone and the number on the desktop are always the same number.

Before
✕Checking, savings, credit cards and a brokerage all live in separate apps
✕Net worth is a spreadsheet nobody keeps updated
✕A simple spending question means digging through five statements by hand
✕Banking and investment apps rarely agree on the same number
What we built

Accounts, spending and investing — plus an assistant that answers back.

◆

One net worth, always current

Every linked account and brokerage rolled into a single number that updates itself — no spreadsheet to maintain.

━

Ask Meridian

A natural-language assistant that answers with a real number, not a chatbot that changes the subject — "can I afford a $4,000 trip in December?" gets a real answer.

○

Spending, categorized automatically

Every transaction sorted into a category without manual tagging, with a monthly breakdown that actually explains where it went.

●

Investing, without five tabs

Holdings across every brokerage and retirement account in one portfolio view, with allocation and all-time return at a glance.

▢

A dashboard for the deeper look

A full web dashboard for the analysis a phone screen isn't built for — trends, holdings tables, allocation, side by side.

▭

Built for both platforms

One React Native codebase for iOS and Android, one Next.js dashboard for the web — a single visual system across both.

Build note

“The assistant had to answer with a real number, not change the subject — ‘can I afford it’ needed an actual yes or no, backed by the data.”
